This holiday season, whether you’ll be rolling out the ultimate dinner menu, enjoying a traditional meal from your favorite restaurant or searching for the best Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving Day, the last thing you would want to do is show up to a closed store.

So, what stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day 2023? Surprisingly, a bunch of them! While Walmart will be closed, shops like Walgreens, Sears and a slew of others will be available to customers. If you’re anticipating extra guests and need to make more of your go-to Thanksgiving side dishes, many grocery stores will also be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Liquor stores in many states will also be open. But, hours may vary by location, so be sure to contact your state’s alcohol control board for the latest information. Retail stores like Best Buy will be closed on Thanksgiving but plan to have extended hours to accommodate holiday shoppers so you can even get a jump on your Christmas shopping.

Though, it's important to remember that some chains will have limited hours depending on location, so you might want to call your nearest shops before you go.

Grocery Stores Open on Thanksgiving 2023

  • ACME: Several locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., but hours may vary.
  • Albertsons: Select stores open from 6 a.m. until at least 3 p.m.
  • C-Town: Several locations will operate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m, but hours can vary.
  • Food Lion: Many locations will be open, but some will close early.
  • Food4Less: Hours start at 6 a.m. and end at midnight all year long.
  • Giant Food Store: Stores will stay open during regular hours on Thanksgiving.
  • Harris Teeter: Stores will close by 2 p.m.
  • H.E.B.: Stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., but the pharmacy will be closed.
  • Kroger: Stores will be opened but with reduced hours.
  • Ralphs: Locations typically open as early as 6 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
  • Stop & Shop: Stores in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey are open until 3 p.m. Stores in Massachusetts and Rhode Island are closed on Thanksgiving Day.
  • The Fresh Market: Stores will be open, but hours depend on location.
  • Whole Foods: Stores will be open but with modified hours.

  • Bass Pro Shops: Stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Big Lots: Stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Cabela's: Stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • CVS: Some stores will be open, and pharmacies may have reduced hours.
  • Dollar General: Stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Family Dollar: Last year, stores were open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Gordmans: Stores will open at reduced hours.
  • Old Navy: Most stores will open at 3 p.m.
  • Rite Aid: Most stores will be open during regular hours.
  • Sears: Last year, stores were open at 6 p.m.
  • Vons: Many stores will operate from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
