Kenneth D. Gibbs: A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation

Kenneth D. Gibbs has served as CEO of Maimonides Medical Center (MMC) since January 2016 and took on the role of president of Maimonides Health in March 2022. Under his leadership, MMC has built upon its legacy of clinical excellence, achieving designation as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center and establishing Brooklyn’s only Pediatric Trauma Center and Comprehensive Spine Center.

Mr. Gibbs joined the Maimonides Board of Trustees in 2013 and served as chair from 2014 to 2015, during which time Maimonides formed an affiliation with Northwell Health. His tenure has seen Maimonides ranked among the top 10 health systems nationwide for clinical performance, with the Heart and Vascular Institute and Jaffe Comprehensive Stroke Center consistently recognized for their outstanding outcomes.

Mr. Gibbs has overseen significant initiatives, including the 2018 affiliation with Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital (MMCH) and $140 million in bonds issued in 2020 to modernize the main campus and create Brooklyn’s first stand-alone trauma center for children.

Beyond Maimonides, Mr. Gibbs chairs the Board of Healthfirst and serves on the Greater New York Hospital Association and the Healthcare Association of New York State boards. Before Maimonides, he led the Municipal Securities Group at Jefferies, LLC, and held executive roles at DEPFA First Albany Securities and First Albany Capital, Inc.

A native New Yorker, Mr. Gibbs holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College. He and his wife have raised four children in the city they love.

How We Began

In1911, a dedicated group of women opened a small dispensary to serve those in need. This humble beginning laid the foundation for what would become Maimonides Medical Center. Over the last century, Maimonides has evolved into a leading health system in New York. Our physicians have pioneered significant medical advancements, and today, we continue to provide award-winning care to our diverse patient community.

Community and Innovation

At Maimonides, our diverse range of specialized services and innovative programs reflects our dedication to community health. We continuously invest in community health initiatives and community partnerships to address the broader social determinants of health—economic stability, education access, and quality, healthcare access and quality, social and community context, and neighborhood.

We engage with local organizations, schools, and community leaders to promote wellness, prevent disease, and ensure that every Brooklynite has access to the resources they need to lead healthier lives.

Our innovative population health programs leverage data and technology to improve care coordination and outcomes for our patients, particularly those with chronic conditions. By focusing on preventive care and early intervention, we aim to reduce hospitalizations and enhance the overall health of our community.

Training the Next Generation
